Episteme (grekiska: ἐπιστήμη epistḗmē) betyder i Platons terminologi kunskap som i "sann rättfärdigad tro"[1], i motsättning till doxa, vilket i detta sammanhang avser åsikter, tro eller antaganden[2]. Begreppet epistemologi, kunskapsteori eller läran om kunskap, kommer av episteme.
